HAPPY CHRISTMAS (WAR IS OVER)

"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" is a  Christmas song released in 1971 by John Lennon and Yoko Ono with the  Harlem Community Choir. The lyrics are set to the traditional English ballad "Skewball".
It was the culmination of more than two years of  peace activism undertaken by John Lennon and Yoko Ono that began with the bed-ins they convened in March and May 1969, the first of which took place during their honeymoon. Also a  protest song  against the  Vietnam War, "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" has since become a  Xmas standard, frequently covered by other artists, appearing on compilation albums of seasonal music, and named in polls as a holiday favourite.
Ad now it will be our performance in the next school Xmas concert to be held in our school concert hall next Friday.

ROBINSON CRUSOE

Today we have been at the school concert hall watching a play in English by Face2Face theatre company. It was a classic, "Robinson Crusoe", revisited in a funnier and more modern version. Hence, we met a champion surfer called Robinson Crusoe, a famous girl who was swept away by a tsunami to a desert island. There she has to manage to survive with the only company of her friend Friday. Does it ring a bell?
Thank you so much to our Parents´Assotiation for giving us the opportunity to improve our English in this amazing way. It was great fun!!! We danced, sang, laughed, jumped and had a fantastic time.
Now take a look at this pictures. Maybe you can see some familiar faces, who knows...

CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY

Christmas Jumper Day is an annual fundraising campaign in the UK organised by charity Save the Children. On Friday 14th December this year, people are encouraged to "make the world better with a sweater" and raise funds for the poor by wearing a Xmas jumper and making a minimum donation of £1.
Those taking part can wear a Christmas jumper they already own, decorate an existing jumper with festive decorations, or even knit their own. Christmas Jumper Day is popular with schools and workplaces.
Save the Children launched their Christmas Jumper Day in 2012 on Friday, 14 December and it has become extremely popular all over the world.
So... prepare your jumper for this Friday. Don´t forget it!!!

SCARY HALLOWEEN!!!

It´s time for vampires, witches, ghosts, skeletons, zombies and some other evil creatures... Scary!!! It is Halloween!!! The night of fear... Have you carved your pumpkins? Do you have your costume ready? What are you waiting for? Remember that, despite it´s an anglosaxon event, it has got celtic origins, so we can find it in Galicia under the name of Samaín.
Today we have had a spooky party at school where we played some funny Halloween games:

- Pass the Mummy
- Blowing the ghost
- The ghost race
- The eyeball dance
- Apple bobbing

It was great fun! And we even recited a magic spell to pass with flying colours!!! Don´t you believe me? Here is the evidence...

ENGLISH AROUND THE WORLD

Today we have been world travellers thanks to Ingrid Clancy, an Irish teacher who visited our school. We entered the English classroom like in an international land, holding our passports and passing through the Passport Control, where an officer put a stamp on them. Once inside, we interacted with Ingrid about 4 English speaking countries: the UK, Ireland, the USA and Canada. This way we learned about their capital cities, flags, symbols and other curiosities. Finally, we went through the Customs again to get another stamp. It was great fun!!!
Here is a memory of this special day. Thank you so much, Ingrid!!! You are always welcome.

SING-ALONG WITH ENGLISH

We have started this new school year with one of our talks by native speakers. In this ocassion, our visitor was Declan Mathews, a teacher from Dundalk (Ireland). He explained the benefits of singing songs to help us learn English. All we have to do is sing and sing ang sing, because this way we learn new words and expressions, we improve our pronountiation and intonation, and we enjoy.
What are you waiting for? Sing along!!!
Thank you so much for your visit, Declan!!!

LET´S COOK

Following the recipe of the TRIFLE, today we have prepared this typical British dessert in the English classroom. To do it, we counted with the help of a native speaker: Susana Barros, English teacher in a famous English school in Coruña. She explained some basic rules to cook: food hygiene, safety in the kitchen, ... In groups of 4, we became real chefs for a while. We had to arrange layers of different foods: sponge cakes, jam, chopped peaches, jelly fruit, berries, custard, cream, hundreds and thousands, ... And the result was very colourful and delicious... Yummy!!! Take a look...
Thank you so much to Susana for her inestimable help!!!

You can feel it in the air, you can smell it in the flowers, you can hear it in the birds, you can touch it in the grass, you can taste it in the strawberries, ... Spring has sprung!!! Days are longer, the weather is warmer and brighter, our clothes are lighter, ... And a new world of activites appears for us: you can fly a kite, you can do gardening, you can make a wish when a ladybird lands on you, you can look for the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, ...

IRISH FOR A DAY

Today we have celebrated Saint Patrick´s Day at school. Remember that it is the patron saint of Ireland. That´s why we received once more the visit of Declan Mathews, an Irish teacher from Dundalk, in the very north of Ireland. He explained us many things about his country, especially about the leprechauns, and he helped us with a quiz to get the pot of gold. And guess what? ... we did it!!! The gold is ours!!!
Thank you so much for your visit, Declan. See you next year.
