Thanks a lot to everyone for your collaboration. Here is a memory of this special day and the video that the official organization sent to us to say thanks.

PASSPORT TO ENGLISH

English is everywhere: in science, in diplomacy, in music, on the internet, ... There are more than 53 English speaking countries around the world. Some of them use it as a primary language and some others, as a coofficial language. Do you fancy travelling around the world with English? If so, you will need a PASSPORT. This school year we are going to develop an annual project consisting of visiting a country every month, 10 in total, 2 on each continent. This way, we will know a bit more about:
- 2 countries in Europe: the UK and Ireland
- 2 in Asia: India and The Philippines
- 2 in Africa: South Africa and Kenya
- 2 in Oceania: Australia and New Zealand
- 2 in America: The USA and Canada
And this was what Susana García explained us last Thursday, the 28th of September. She is from London and teaches English in an English school in Coruña. We could also prepare our PASSPORT TO ENGLISH with her. Thank you so much, Susana!

1 2 3... MAGIC!!!

As you know, along the school year we are going to receive the visit of some native speakers from different English speaking countries who will explain us different aspects of their culture. To start with the right foot, and as a welcome to the new school year, we enjoyed a fantastic magic show by Joshua Kenneth Illusionist, a young magician who amazed us with his extraordinary magic tricks. If you want to know more about Joshua Kenneth, click on his name or on his photo and you will see his webpage.

Thank you so much, Joshua! We´ll see you again next September.

FAVOURITE SUBJECTS

What is your favourite subject? And your least favourite subject? We all have different likes and that´s why we prefer one subject to another. But... how much do you know about every subject? A lot? ... Not much? ... This is what happens to Sam Cooke, the singer of this famous song. Enjoy it!

SEE YOU LATER

And this is the end.... After a lot of laughter, fun, games, letters, videos, exams and homework, it´s time to say goodbye. You will start a new adventure in September, but always remember that a part of you is here, in Emilia Pardo Bazán Primary School. There is a Japanese legend that says that everyone of us have a red string tied around our pinky finger which connects us with all the people who have been important for us. Well, my red string of fate is connected to all and every one of you... I will miss you!!!
But remember... it´s not goddbye, it´s... SEE YOU LATER!!!

SCAVENGER HUNT

And with the school year about to finish, we have spent our last English lesson playing 2 typical games: Scavenger Hunt and Sally go round the sun.
To play SCAVENGER HUNT we had to go to the school playground and look for ten spring items: a leaf, a stick, a flower, a shamrock, a berry, a feather, green grass, ... The first team completing the list was going to be the winner, but the truth was that all the teams were really fast. So... no winners and no losers. After collecting all these things, we created a masterpiece with them. Take a look...
SALLY GO ROUND THE SUN is a Canadian folk song to play and sing in a big circle, keeping the beat with your feet. We had already learned it with the music teacher so... this time was easy-peasy!

WORLD REFUGEE DAY

Today, 20th of June, is World Refugee Day. We live in a world where war and violence force thousands of families to flee from their countries in really hard conditions. To make people concious about this situation, on this day we commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of asylum seekers. Stop for a minute and take a look...

IRISH TEACHERS AT SCHOOL!!!

Once more we received some foreigners at school: 3 teachers from Ireland, in concrete from Carlow Educate Together Primary School. They were Erin, Mark and Clionna. They wanted to know our experience in the teaching of Galician and see some lessons in order to take some ideas to implement in their own school with Irish. So they participated in different activities, all of them in Galician: They made a kiss in an origami lesson with 6th year, they learned about Carlos Casares with 3rd year, they saw a drama rehearsal with 6th year, they listened to some poems and songs with 5-year-olds, they danced, the collected plants and flowers for May Day, they watched a typical Galician lesson in 2nd year ... Exhausting but very gratifying!!!
Thanks a lot for your visit!!! We hope to see you again... In fact, we already have penpals in their school!!!

WORLD BOOK DAY - ST. GEORGE´S DAY

Today it is World Book Day, a celebration of authors, books, illustrators and editors. Some centuries ago, on the 23rd of April, two great writers died: one in Spain, Miguel de Cervantes, and the other in England, William Shakespeare. Both wrote many works, very well known all over the world. Besides, today the English celebrate St. George´s day, patron saint of England.
And that´s why we have had the honour to receive the visit of Susana Zas, an English teacher in the School of Languages, who came to tell us about these two celebrations. She also gave us the two typical gifts of this day: a book and a rose. She told us the story of George and the dragon and gave us a rose as a memory.
Thank you so much, Susana. We hope to see you again next year!!!

We went today on an Easter egg hunt and we ate a delicious chocolate egg and we marched in a colourful parade with our lovely Easter bonnets. Besides, we also participated in a funny egg rolling. A day dedicated to Easter... Take a look!!!
Happy Easter everyone!!! See you on the 18th of April...

ST. PATRICK´S DAY

Today, St. Patrick´s Day, we have celebrated the national day of Ireland with a special visitor: Declan Mathews, an Irish father of our school. He told us many things about his country, in particular about this celebration, the most popular around the world. We also had to play several games to get the leprechaun´s pot of gold: first we participated in a quiz with 20 questions, and we guessed 17!!! Then we played 3 funny games: "Pin the stem on the shamrock", "The leprechaun says" and "Gold Coin Toss". In the end, we all sang "Molly Mzalone" together and... we got the gold!!!
Thank you so much for your visit, Declan. See you next year!!!
Happy St. Patrick´s Day to you all!!!

BITS OF BRITISH

Today we have had a lesson about the British and their stereotypes. Now we all know what they are fond of and what they are crazy about, and even what they cannot stand. And all of this thanks to Susana, our school English mother. She told us many things we have to do or to avoid when we travel to the UK. But she also mentioned the idea the British have about the Spanish. It was great fun!
We really appreciate her visit. Thanks a lot once again, Susana.
Here is a memory of this "splendid" day.

CARNIVAL TIME!

It´s Carnival time! Who will you be? As you probably know, the school Carnival topic for this year is Spanish dances and we´ll be Galician traditional dancers. It sounds good, doesn´t it? In England Carnival is not celebrated at this time of the year. They have the Notting Hill Carnival, but it´s in the summer. Have you ever heard of it? Have a look at these 2 videos: one gives information about this specific celebration and the other reproduces the main vocabulary of the Carnival. Enjoy them!

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

It doesn´t matter who you are or what your thoughts are... All you need is love. If there is a song that represents love, there is no doubt that the winner is this one by The Beatles. It became the hymn of love and peace, of friendship and cooperation amog all races and nations. Take a look at its lyrics...
We are going to watch a version made by voices from 156 different countries, who join together to sing it at exactly the same time as a way os raising awareness of AIDS in Africa: on the 7th of December 2009 at 1:30 GMT.
