BORN IN THE USA

Continuing with our talks with native speakers, last Thursday the 26th, we received the visit of an American boy: Bryon Boyce. He is from California but he works in Salvador de Madariaga Secondary School as a teaching assitant. He explained many things about his country: a bit of geography, some customs and one important tradition, Thanksgiving Day. As that day was Thanksgiving Day, the spirit of this celebration was in the air all the time, moving us.
We all are really really thankful for his kind visit.
Besides, he brought us a present: some pumpkin seeds to eat. They were delicious!!! And we all finished singing a fantastic song by the Boss, Bruse Sprinsteen: "Born in the USA". Definitely, a memorable day that we will never forget.
Thank you so much, Bryon!

FIRST READING: "PUMPKINS - A PIE FOR MISS POTTER"

The autumn is a time for apples, pears, chestnuts, walnuts and ...pumpkins. But do you know how to grow a pumpkin? Or what can we use a pumpkin for? Besides, soon it will be Thanksgiving Day in the USA. How much do you know about this celebration? You can have the answer to all these questions reading this book.
The book is divided in 2 parts: the first one explains many things about pumpkins and the second one is a story about Miss Potter, an American teacher who goes to London and feels homesick. Enjoy them!
Remember that you have got the book and the audio, but they are separated. First you can read the story and secondly, click on the image below to listen to it.

THIS IS HALLOWEEN

You know perfectly well what Halloween is but we are going to remember the most important things of this special day. This is Halloween:

- carving pumpkins
- dressing up
- trick or treating
- parties
- games
- sweets

And we were doing all these things during this week. You can see a fantastic pumpkin exhibiton in the entrance hall. Thank you so much for your creativity and imagination. They are really fantastic!!! Besides, we had a great time in the English class playing these Halloween games:

- The mummy dance
- The ghosts race
- Apple bobbing

Apple bobbing is our favourite. We got a bit wet trying to catch an apple with our teeth. Have a look....

SCHOOL LIFE

Today we had a special visitor in our school: Mrs. Susan. She is an English teacher who came to explain us how a normal day in a British school is. This is the second of our series of native speakers´ talks for this school year.
We learned many things such as registration, assembly and some others. We also participated in the talk telling her the places our school has, the things we take in our schoolbags, the people who works in our school, ... and we even played a British playground game ("Frog in the middle") and we sang a song about school subjects ("Wonderful world").
We all had a very good time. Thank you so much for coming, Mrs. Susan.
Have a look at the pictures and at the PPT and you will see...

WONDERFUL WORLD

Do you think this is a wonderful world? This song talks about how marvellous the world can be despite you don´t know muvh about your school lessons. Do you agree? We have to take into account that the protagonist is in love and nothing else matters. Listen carefully to the names of the different subjects they are mentioned. WELCOME BACK!!!

Hello and welcome back to a new school year!
We all feel a bit lazy after the marvellous summer holidays. But now it´s time to hit the books again and start full of energy and illusion. That´s why we had a special activity last Friday, the 11th of September: we had a fantastic pop concert at school! The activity was called "ENGLISH... SING IT!". The fabulous band "BLUE SMOKE" sang many famous English songs such as "What a wonderful world", "Imagine", "Stand by me", "Don´t worry, be happy", "We will rock you",  "All of me", "Radioactive" or  "Say something". BLUE SMOKE has got 4 members:
- MarĂa RodrĂguez: vocals
- Carlos Mejuto: drums
- Alejandro Sanz: electric guitar
- Andrés Rey: acustic guitar, vocals
Besides, a native speaker (Brenda Handford) made us think about the importance of learning English and about the different ways to learn it. One of the funniest is through songs.
We had a fantastic time! Have a look...

We had to find a wild flower, a clover, a dandelion, a leaf, some grass, ... Later, with all the objects collected, we made a "masterpiece". Do you fancy seeing them?

It´s Carnival and we all dressed up at school. The topic of this year was "We are moving". There were lots of carpenters, painters, cleaners and loads of boxes full with all the stuff we have to take to the new building. And we even had the visit of the Queen of Great Britain, her majesty Elizabeth II, who came with her husband the Duke of Edimburgh!!!
As you know, there are not fancy dress costumes in England during these days, but they have PANCAKES, delicious pancakes. On Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday, people eat pancakes and participate in pancake races all over England. We also had one race in our school. Take a look...
