It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970 and it´s celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. Earth Day is celebrated in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.
Forty years after the first Earth Day, the world is in greater peril than ever. While climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, it also presents the greatest opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, clean and green planet now and for the future.
