CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY
Christmas Jumper Day is an annual fundraising campaign in the UK organised by charity Save the Children. On Friday 13th December this year, people are encouraged to "make the world better with a sweater" and raise funds for the poor by wearing a Xmas jumper and making a minimum donation of £1.
Those taking part can wear a Christmas jumper they already own, decorate an existing jumper with festive decorations, or even knit their own. Christmas Jumper Day is popular with schools and workplaces.
Save the Children launched their Christmas Jumper Day in 2012 on Friday, 14 December and it has become extremely popular all over the world.

THANKSGIVING DAY
Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in the USA and Canada. In the States, it is on the fourth Thursday in November, however, in Canada, it is celebrated in October. Families gather together for a big meal, which usually consists of roast turkey with potatoes, corn, carrots and other vegetables. Pumpkin pie is essential for dessert. It is also a time to be thankful for the good things we have, so we say: I´M THANKFUL FOR... What are you thankful for?
Now it´s your turn: watch the videos and practice the new vocabulary with a game.

PASSPORT TO ENGLISH
Yesterday we had the chance to meet a native speaker, Ingrid Clancy, a teacher from Galway, Ireland, as part of our project "Passport to English". She talked to us about the English language, its origins, its importance nowadays and how it is spread around the world. Then she gave us a passport to visit 10 English speaking countries, 2 in each continent. And now that we have our official documents ready, we are about to start our journey around the globe to learn the culture and traditions of each place. Exciting, isn´t it?
This way, we will meet speakers with different accents who will explain the best of their hometown. So we will get a stamp from every place we visit until we complete our passport.
Thank you so much to Ingrid for her visit. We hope to see her soon.

SEE YOU SOON, MIKE
It is time to say goodbye. We held the last session with Mike last Friday, a very special one, because he explained how it would be if we were born in the USA: what clothes we would wear, what food we would eat, what festivals we would celebrate, ... It was great fun because he brought his baseball glove and ball and some other American stuff. Nevertheless, it was a bit sad because we had to say goodbye to Mike...
After all these months, we have really improved our oral skills thanks to your help, Mike. We truly appreciate your effort and commitment. We will miss you tons!!!
VERY MANY THANKS!!!

SPEAKING ASISTANT - ELECTIONS
Mike, our speaking assistant, came to visit us once again last Friday. This time he showed us a video about a very influential British woman from last century, Emmeline Pankhurst, who defended the women´s right to vote and to have the same opportunities as men. After that, we pretended to have general elections in the classroom, with 2 different political parties defending opposite ideas: ice-cream vs cake, winter vs summer, mountain vs beach. Then we organised a debate where the representatives of each party exposed their ideas to promote their option. After that, we proceeded to vote and finally we did a live counting to see the results.
Apart from having a great time, we learned many words related to elections: voting sheet, voting box, polling station, party, debate, campaign, ...
Thanks a lot again, Mike!!! We really appreciate your effort.

A GREEN DAY
Amazing! Everything was green today in our English classroom! There were leprechauns, shamrocks, green clothes, green faces,... We received the visit of an Irish teacher too: Declan Mathews. He explained many things about Ireland and about its most fanmous celebration: St. Patrick´s Day. In the end, we had to answer 10 questions about his talk and we caught a leprechaun! So we got his pot of gold!
And we all sang the fantastic song "Molly Malone". It really moved us!
Thank you very much, Declan! An unforgettable day!

PANCAKE RACE
Last Tuesday it was Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday in England. A pancake is a thin, flat cake. It is made of batter (milk, flour and eggs) and fried in a frying-pan. It is similar to our "filloa". But people in England usually eats it with caster sugar and a dash of fresh lemon juice. Then they rolled it. Some people add golden syrup or jam.
Many English villages also organice a pancake race, which is great fun. The participants wear an apron, a hat and a frying pan with a pancake. They have to run and flip the pancake over at the same time. And as this is our game of the month, we have all participated in a pancake race at school today. It was very exciting and it was curious to see so many "cooks" running and flipping pancakes all together. Watch this slideshow and these videos and you´ll understand what I mean....

GAME OF THE MONTH
Every month we learn a British phrase and a traditional game to improve our speaking skills and to have fun. We have decided to record the game of this month, based on a catchy rhyme: "Sally go round the sun"
Kids go around in a circle singing this song. When they sing it a second time, they go in the opposite direction. They can keep singing it and reversing their direction as many times as they wish.

SPEAKING ASSISTANT
Yesterday we had the visit of an American boy, Michael Mazzeo who talked to us about his hometown, New York, and about his family, hobbies, likes and dislikes. Later, we could introduce ourselves and interact with him, and everything in English!
Michael is doing a volunteering job in our school as a speaking assistant, thanks to a special collaboration with the NGO Axuda en Acción. We really appreciate this kind of initiatives because this way we can be exposed to different native speakers with their particular accents, which will be highly benefitial for our speaking skills. In fact, we can see Michael once a month from now on until the end of the school year. Cool!!!
Thanks a bunch to Michael and to Bea, the representative of Axuda en Acción in Galicia!!!
